this is no longer a "stability +" shoeFeb 02, 2010 I loved the Wave 4 Nirvana, but this shoe was a nightmare for me. I run about 6 miles a day, sometimes 15 when training for longer races.
Though the Nirvana 4 controlled my pronation and gave me adequate support and cushioning over 15 miles, the Nirvana 5 allowed my arches to collapse and my ankles to roll. My knees and back hurt like [expletive] when i wear these shoes, unless i put pricey orthotics in them--which i dislike, since that impedes the toe-off motion of my feet.
Mizuno makes other stability shoes that could easily fill the same niche as the Nirvana 5--but not the oh-so-much-better Nirvana 4.
The old Nirvana was a top-seller; i don't think they should have messed with that perfection. There are a lot of broad-hipped women who pronate seriously and still run 10K's and half marathons. We'd like our shoes back. Otherwise, there are very few "stability plus" shoes on the market.
Great!Dec 14, 2009 I know Mizuno for running and I loved this model. Good stability and damping. Besides of that, it's a very beutiful model.

Saved my running in the futureOct 22, 2009 I am a '30-40 mile a week' runner with slight pronation. In the past, I ran in the Sauconny Grid Omni. I loved the shoe until I went to a running store and got the Brooks Trance GTS recommended. I ran in this Brooks shoe for a long time: They were so light, so nicely cushioned, I thought never to wear another shoe. Until I needed another shoe and went to a running shoe place asked to be fitted and to get some recommendation. The knowledgeable sales guy recommened not the go with the Brooks anymore as the new model was not as cushioned and high in quality as the last model He gave me a couple of shoes to try out and I put the Mizuno Nirvana on and...felt like in Nirvana. I have been running in the shoe now for 3 months and I have been logging quite a few miles and they still feel perfect. The best is....with my Sauconny and Brooks I had knee problems...not during runs, but afterwards. Sometimes when I knelt and wanted to get up, a sharp pain would hit me and I had to adjust my knee to actually get up. As I had never had knee problems before in my life and during my runs, I decided to ignore it. The Mizuno Nirvana has taken care of it totally. Since I started running in them, I have not had the knee problem or any other foot/knee problems (I don't wear any insoles, etc. in my running shoes). My life with Mizuno is perfect...except for the price (that's why it's getting only 4 stars).

Don't be scared...This Mizuno is a perfectly great running shoe.Oct 16, 2009 First off, let me start by saying, "No. The manufacturer has not sent me a pair of free shoes, a discount or any other promotional in order to entice a positive review for this product in any way."
It drives me nuts when customers put reviews on any network where consumers buy products only to leave negative feedback without including the whole picture, and this includes personal responsibility.
There's a dozen reasons why someone's Mizuno Waves (Nirvana style in this case) might not have been as stellar as a previous "generation." For instance, who's to say the woman leaving said dissatisfied review doesn't wear 3 inch heels to work every day and has, as a result, developed bunions? Or to take it to the extreme, become obsessed with her neighbor's lifestyle of Geishadom and started wrapping her feet resulting in completely throwing the regular fit of a shoe she's been perfectly content with in the past completely off. Or a simple fact such as: said lady is getting older, her arch is now dropping and she now requires to be refit to maybe a wider brand or buy orthotics and add a half size to her regular running shoe? Just sayin'
In all seriousness, I've been a die-hard Mizuno wearing runner for the last 3 years. About every 8 months (if you're an avid exerciser this is about the point when most running shoes start to break down, between 6-8 months) I buy another pair because of their great shock absorbing capability, ankle support and endurance on both street and track surfaces- even cross country is good in these running shoes because the soles really dig into your course. Another important factor is that you need to know how your body and feet work together.
Example: Do you pronate or supinate when you run? Pronation means that you probably have a medium arch (not a high or too low one) and that if your arch is a high one (dancers pay attention) then you should go for the Mizuno "Creation" ...also sold here on Amazon (check reviews). If you want to know more about what is the best running shoe for you personally, then use the web ([...]) or better yet go to an actual running store first that specializes in running. There is nothing worse than a crappy fitting running shoe (ok, maybe starvation, war and the apocalypse is worse) Point being, I recently bought the Mizuno Wave Nirvana (my feet pronate) and about the only dilemma I encountered was deciding whether the silver/blue/blu or silver/grey/orange color combo was going to be more attractive with my regular black work-out attire.
I often run in the evening which is another reason I buy this shoe; great reflectors ladies. They really do the job when that headlight flashes across any angle of your feet.
So, overall, don't be afraid to buy this shoe... and if this still hasn't convinced you this brand is a great choice for anyone that is a beginning to advanced runner, then GO TO a running store (if you're in LA, I recommend 'Arch & Sole' on La Brea) and they will fit you to your perfect fit. Then you can come back to Amazon and shop away for that extra discount (although, 'Arch & Sole' will match Amazon if you the owner ask politely.) Happy running.
PS- The only reason I did not give this 5 stars? I still haven't found the running shoe that makes you feel like you're "running on clouds"- I don't believe they exist.

Quality has gone downhillAug 04, 2009 I have worn Mizuno Wave Nirvana shoes for several years. I need a shoe that will accommodate my custom orthotics and give me support for my high, weak arches and recurring plantar fasciitis. Wave Nirvanas USED to fit the bill perfectly - I thought I'd never quit wearing them, but sadly, the last pair I bought were nowhere near the quality of my previous pairs. My latest pair is not as well constructed as my older ones - the materials seem flimsier and the arch support and fit are nowhere near as good. In fact, my plantar fasciitis has flared up since I started wearing them. I will buy the older models as long as I can find them on the internet, and when those are gone, I'll have to find another brand. What a shame - I would have been a loyal customer for life if Mizuno had kept up their high standards for these shoes, but they have not.
